5 Tips to Get Back to Basics

As the gyms reopen and we move back to some normality, some of us may be feeling a little bit weary and off track. Its time to reset, and reestablish those great habits that keep us happy, healthy and stress free. I have 5 tips to get back in sync with some great habits and routines to help you get back on track.

1. Nutrition

Weightloss can be simple. Its about maintaining a not-to-restrictive calorie deficit. Start with a calorie goal. Book your Shape Personal Training evolt scan to determine the calorie target to meet your goals. Then start tracking your food consumption. Plan ahead where possible. Weigh and measure your foods. Monitor your results with your Shape Personal Trainer, to keep you accountable.

2. Exercise

Once again planning ahead will help you carve out the time you need to prioritize the exercise. Book your Personal Training sessions. Plan your additional cardio minutes. We recommend 3 to 4 hours a week. Work towards progress. Set a goal. It might be to run 1km non stop over 4 weeks.

3. Sleep

Be sure to get 6 to 8 hours of good quality sleep each night. Sleep is important for weightloss, stress relief, focus, muscle gain, and the mind. Your body needs rest for optimal function. Create a sleep routine. Switch off devices early to prepare for proper rest.

4. Drink more water

Try and drink 2 litres of water each day, and an extra 1L for each 1hr of exercise undertaken. Water will promote weightloss and remove toxins from the body and keep you hydrated. A great reminder especially in winter when we may be consuming alternate fluids. The importance of water to promote a healthy body is extremely significant.

5. Reduce stress

Try a Shape Yoga class. Yoga class includes time to focus on breathing as well as a short period of meditation and mindfulness, along with stretching and strengthening of our body. Exercise and healthy eating also helps with stress reduction. If you begin experiencing some moments of stress, anxiety, frustration, anger or general unease, take a moment to take a few deep breaths and focus within. Take a walk or talk to a friend or your Shape personal trainer.

It doesn’t need to be complex and difficult. Just try start with the basics. And remember consistency is key. You can only fail if you stop trying. No single moment can derail us from our goal. If you find yourself off track, refocus, reallign your goals, reset, and keep progressing forward and towards your goals. Always remember that your Shape Personal Trainer is here to help you all the way.
